PWL Studio, pwlstudio.com, has completely revised and updated the web site to better describe the uniqueness of the state-of-the-art Scientific Whitetail Deer Breeding Facility at Thunderhill Ranch. The web site is also emphasizing Trophy Whitetail Deer Hunting and Lodging Facilities that are available at Thunderhill Ranch for the 2009 season.

Finalized Breeding Plans For 2008 Breeding Season: September 15, 2008

After much discussion with all the Thunderhill Ranch Staff during the summer months, the breeding plan for 2008 was finalized. Approximately 100 does will be bred to five 3 year old breeders and five 2 year old breeders. This is the first year that Thunderhill Ranch has not used artificial insemination as a part of their breeding program.

New Scientific Breeding Facility Game Fence Completed September 2008

During September 2008 the new security fence that was built around the Scientific Deer Breeding Facility was completed. The purpose is to provide a buffer of approximately 100 acres between that facility and the rest of the ranch.

Thunderhill Ranch has provided a solution to the harmful darting practices in DNA Sampling. They are different from other breeding facilities in that they do not dart their deer for DNA sampling. Instead THR uses safe chutes to work their deer and collect DNA samples. The deer are guided in the chute, a door is closed then samples are taken quickly. The deer are then returned back into the pens, and there is no time wasted. Knowing that darting is expensive, time consuming, and depletes the heath of the deer, THR found that not darting is the exact opposite. It helps the ranch stay organized, cuts costs, and protects the health of the animals. This is a more economical way to boost quality of their deer.

The ranch is currently taking samples from their older deer to connect all the lineage on the ranch. This information will help them to inform and educate their clients on the full genetics of their deer selections. At the same time they can trace genetic performance and health of the animals on an accurate scientific level. THR is not only a deer breeding facility, but a pioneer, in cultivating new technologies to change the character of the deer breeding industry.
